10 of 22 series episodes on TVE channel Interrupted for a Series recording today

All I have to say is Ugh!

I tried resuming my TVE recordings using a free channel, Dove, that was showing epsiodes of "The Beverly Hillbillies" all day today as a test to see if I could rely on TVE recordings.

After seeing 10 of the 22 episodes marked as Interrupted, I selected them and marked them as Not Recorded and Paused, then Resumed my Series Pass for the Series which was running a marathon of most first season episodes. That kicked off recording those that were Interrupted and still airing.

Sometime tonight it will finish "re-recording" the Interrupted episodes and then I will have to examine each one to determine if the guide data was correct and it actually recorded the episode it thought was aired since this is one of those TVE channels where the guide data is often late/incorrect.

Personally, it's a lot of work to have to examine every recording, but I don't know how Channels DVR could determine if the Guide data is correct or what's missing from the Interrupted recordings.

Given the fact my TVE recordings are often 'Interrupted', I'll stick to my Cable and OTA sources while I still have them. I realize others don't have that fallback and empathize with them.

I realize it's an issue with the Network stream provider, in this case Dove.
Maybe the devs have worked on/around this issue, but haven't seen any traffic or acknowledgement on it.

If so, this is good news they "cover" the disconnect in the recorded file so you don't lose any of the recording.

For interrupt issues, we would appreciate if you could email to support the hls-2020*.log file from your dvr which corresponds to when the disconnect happened. Inside it would say tag="dove" and show some err="..." matches.

The behavior you saw on the other thread is a side effect of how http streaming works. What happens after an interruption is not predictable as it depends on how long it takes to reconnect. You may end up with overlap if you're lucky or you can also easily have missing timestamps. We have not optimized this case and are more focused on fixing the disconnects/interruptions in the first place.

I copied the logs from my NAS where Channels runs to my PC before they rotated out.
The hls logs only go back to 4:40AM yesterday.
I do have 4 recordings that were interrupted between 6AM and NOON yesterday, so I'll have to correlate which logs. Each hls log file is 2MB.

Two questions

  1. Do you need the channels-dvr log for that timespan also
  2. Do you want the hls logs that cover all 4 interrupted recordings

Just the hls log is fine. I assume the same error happened over and over so one or two examples are enough for us to investigate

Nothing showed up to [email protected] yet but will keep an eye out.

For some reason my email client wasn't able to send it for 35 minutes.
It now shows as sent and I didn't receive a bounce.
I just resent it.

Got it! Problem isolated and we are investigating a fix.

So as far as I can tell, the dove feed is just broken. It randomly jumps ahead in time and has gaps of missing content. It's also breaking the HLS RFC in ways that make it hard for us to do anything different than what it's doing now (disconnect/reconnect and hope for the best).

My hunch is this case is very rare and isolated to dove channel. I know you've had other interruption problems on major TVE networks before, so if you run into something like that again please do send us the hls logs the same way because those are probably a different issue.

OK, Thanks for looking into it. I'll remember that channel is unreliable.

I was actually able to record all the episodes aired that day without Interrupted recordings.
They ran episodes in the morning and the same ones again in the afternoon.

So I checked the episodes it recorded in the morning and marked the Interrupted ones as Not Recorded, then paused and resumed the series pass. None of the afternoon recordings were interrupted.

Unfortunately this requires you to babysit the DVR.

I could have created manual passes for every episode that aired in the afternoon.

I'd prefer to be able to select those airings in the guide and force record them, knowing they would be duplicates of what the pass recorded earlier, but it would increase the odds that one of the two would be a good recording.

Hmm, yea it should really just re-record corrupted stuff again automatically. I'm going to poke at that soon.
