Channels and Chrome

I'm a bit unsure about the relationship between Channels DVR Server and Chrome. From what I've read here it appeared to me that Channels Server running on a PC needed Chrome installed. So when I set up Channels Server on a Linux (Ubuntu) mini-PC I installed the open source Chromium package from the repository. Channels Server has been running rock solid since setup.

Am I correct? Does Chrome need to be installed for Channels Server to function properly?

If so which Chrome would be preferred under Linux: the open source Chromium package -or- the Google Chrome Browser for Linux available from Google?

apt install chromium-browser is what's recommended

It's only required for TVE

Thank you. I do use TVE with YouTube-TV and since I have Chromium installed I can leave everything alone.
