Channels on Apple TV 3

Is there a way to load the Channels app onto a Apple TV 3?

If so, will future updates update as normal or will the original install process need to be repeated for updates?

The App Store is only available on the Apple TV 4

Unfotunately not, only apps from specific Apple partners are available on the ATV3. The older hardware isn’t fast enough to run Channels anyway.

Airplay Support

Normal AirPlay support requires the use of Apple's system video player. Channels uses a custom video player due to the streams coming from the HDHomeRun being MPEG2. The system video player does not play MPEG2 natively. So there's really nothing we can do about it. We would have totally supported it if it was possible. You can airplay mirror with your phone, but it's going to lower the quality a bit due to how mirroring works. It's also going to hurt the battery a bit. But it IS possible. Try …
