Channels SHOULD NOT be a file manager for imports

So I was playing around with imports a week or so ago. Imported about 6TB of recordings. It went south in my experimentation and I thought I had safely regressed to Channels only worrying about it's recordings. Instead it deleted the import library sometime AFTER I had thought it was done with it's clean up and had changed the file permissions back to read/write.

I would say that Channels SHOULD NOT be a file manager for imported media. While I'm not too upset losing the things I had in this library, I'm still not happy as some of it cannot be replaced. My own fault as I didn't have a backup of this library and did give Channels Read/Write to that directory.

Time to add Channels to my Test Server I think!

What exactly did you do in Channels? When you remove a Local Content source it doesn't delete any files.

I had imported the library to run CommSkip on it as I love the way Channels does that and a lot of the library was before Channels & CommSkip. After experimenting with different things and seeing how it did CommSkip on imports and how imports worked/were filtered etc. I decided to import a smaller batch to work on. So I removed the directory from the "Local Content" section. There was nothing I could do to remove the imports from the Channels. Tried Scan Sources and Prune Deleted from the Local Content section and it made no difference. Had to go into Manage and delete them from there. Figured out it was deleting from the file system and set it to read only. Continued deleting from Channels and all looked well. Restarted the server and let it set for a day. Then changed the directory back to read/write. Channels caught up!

The day I noticed it was deleting from the file system would have been 3/29. Here's a log snippet from 3/31 after I put it back to read/write:

Channels just deleted 114 of my movies

Okay so you removed the directory but noticed that imports were still in the database?

Can you submit diagnostics from the DVR under Support > Troubleshooting

Edit: Yes, the imports were still in the database after removing the directory.
