Can the DVR be installed on a Chromebox running Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS?
Yes anything that runs Ubuntu should work.
I would double check the specs and CPU model though, especially if you want advanced features like comskip and Quick Sync transcoding.
Ok, tried to install the DVR service by running the command at the terminal and it failed. Output from the terminal window shown below.

I’m sure it’s likely me doing something wrong, don’t know that much about Ubuntu.
That’s version of Ubuntu is a couple years old. Looks like you hit a bug since we haven’t tested with it yet.
Can you run a couple commands and paste the output:
ls -alh /etc/conf/channels-dvr.conf
sudo status channels-dvr
I think that version of Ubuntu may be the only one that runs on a Chromebox but I have not researched that very extensively at this point. Below is the output from the 2 commands.

Okay seems the service installation is failing.
Run these:
ls -alh channels-dvr
bash -x channels-dvr/install.sh
Ok, finally got Ubuntu 14 reinstalled on the Chromebox and ran the original command listed on the beta page to install the DVR server and it worked. Everything appears to be working…now to move recordings, passess, etc. to the new box.

Ran into a problem. After I got the DVR installed and reconfigured I tried to reboot the Chromebox to ensure everything started back up properly. When the Chromebox reboots the “Enable Bonjour Discovery” box is unchecked and can’t be re-checked and my tuners do not show. I can use the drop down to scan for tuners then they show up however the bonjour box is still unchecked and the DVR is not working on the AppleTV.
I tried to reboot the AppleTV as well but same result. I then tried to uninstall the DVR, re-installed it and rebooted the Chromebox and the same result.
What does the Log tab say?

It looks like your networking might not be configured correctly, which is causing the DVR to start before the network is available.
It also looks like it might have started before the external drive was mounted.
For the networking issue, see Wait for networking on reboot (ubuntu network-online.target)
You need to check your /etc/network/interfaces file and make sure it references the right ethernet adapter, and is set to something like:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
Once networking is fixed, if the DVR still shows “permission denied” errors in the log after boot then try this: Fedora 25 Help - Start Channels-DVR automatically after reboot
Currently the Chromebox is connected via wifi. I changed the interfaces file as suggested, plugged it into ethernet and rebooted. Here is the output of the log after that:

I tried the link you provided for the “permission denied” error but when I opened the channels-dvr.service file using sudo gedit /etc/systemd/system/channels-dvr.service a window opens but I don’t see anything to edit.
I upgraded Ubuntu to 16.04 and now all seems to work fine after a reboot…so far, so good.
