Commercial detection failed for tvshow.mpg with signal: segmentation fault (core dumped)
I've seen a couple threads on this but not really a solid resolution. Right now it only seems to be happening on Fox News TVE. Detection seems to be working fine on OTA, Pluto for Channels, etc.
for comparison, I recorded a Fox News show from my cable HDHR Prime and comskip worked perfect. Something going on with TVE I guess?

Any input? Bueller? 
It usually means there were some errors in the source file (which is normal for TVE streams), and that the commercial detection program could not handle the problem file. The program will usually play fine, but it won't have any commercials flagged.
I saw it once before, but in my case it appears the cause was the path length of the video Commercial detection failed with signal: aborted (core dumped)
I worked around it as you can see in the post, but the devs never responded
You might want to take a look at the comskip logs for those recordings causing the core dump to see if there's anything in them. In my case the comskip log was never created.
I just rebooted my Synology just to see if that makes any difference.
My paths are short... /Channels/TV /Channels/Logs etc
I don't see 'core dumped' or 'segmentation' in one of the video.log files.
I just noticed that that /Logs folder is huge!
Is it normal that there is a video.mpg in that log folder and also a show_name.mpg in the TV folder with the exact same size? I never really poked around much in here since everything so far has 'just worked' haha.

It's not as large as you think. Those .mpg files are actually symbolic links (references) to the actual files, and don't really take up any space beyond the single inode they use. (Think of it as a single card in the card catalog in the library: it just tells you where to find the actual item, and the only physical space it is actually using makes it so that particular drawer can hold one less card to reference another item.)
(Although as I write this, I wonder how many people these days know what a physical card catalog is or how to use a reference library; in any case, the analogy is quite apt.)

So by responding that I know about and have used card catalogs... does expose that we're both old?
I would look at the comskip log and see where it stopped logging (compared to a good one).
Unless one of the devs reply to you (have you submitted DVR diagnostics? Not that it helped my case) it appears we're on our own for this type of issue.
Are you only experiencing it on certain channels (i.e. only Fox News, or other channels also)?
Does it happen with every recording from those channels, or only some recordings?
Seems to only be Fox News at this point... it used to work fine other than failing to detect those dead air gaps while local stations broadcast commercials. Tried recording a few movies on other TVE channels and everything completed successfully.
Should be easy for anyone else to duplicate.
I don't record that channel, but just did a test recording and got the core dump also.
