Commercial Skip Requires Manual Detection

Channels v2022.05.25.0242 (PC+32GB/Windows 11 Pro/AMD RX580+8GB)
Settings/Commercial Detection/Detect Commercials: Enabled
Thread Count: 5 (out of 15)
Clients/Global Client Settings/Playback>Commercial Skipping: Automatically

I have the above version and settings. When I record, it seems the shows never have commercials marked for skip automatically. I have to manually go to the show, to Options, then Redetect Commercials in order for commercials to be detected and marked for skip. This was happening on the prior Channels release also. Am I missing a setting or step, or is this a bug?

Thanks in advance.

There is also a per-show setting for commercial detection: in the web UI select the program and the verify that "Detect Commercials" is enabled under the "Show Options" section.

Yes thanks, I've checked and it is on by default for every show

I did some testing... turns out it's actually not happening with every show. I read somewhere if an off-air signal is weak, this can happen. But I am recording from sources like Pluto or Stirr - not off-air antenna...

There's not a lot in the logs either... Here's the one I processed by-hand this morning, but it just shows that my manual request triggered 14 markers:

2022/06/02 08:32:36.367458 [DVR] Running commercial detection on file 35308 (TV\101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow (51, E6) \101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow (51,E6) 2022-06-01-0701.mpg)

How about the logs after a recording? Do they show detection being run?

Could be those recordings are using the New Smart Commercial Detection.
I have some that are marked with no commercials and some that show almost the whole recording as a commercial.
You can tell the method used by looking at the log when the recording finished, per this first post.

@chDVRuser Ahh...thanks. I will record some more and report back.

You can also look back in your logs as many lines as you want
How can I view more of the Channels DVR Server Log?

Excellent tip, thanks!
