Direct Remote vs. HLS

How is the choice made to involve re-muxing to HLS when streaming remotely?

The 720p video resolution with Direct Remote is being shown as Native Resolution: 640x360 on an iPad, 1080i is shown as 960 x 540.

What do you mean by Direct Remote?

Option/Show stats on the client. It seems the server chooses sometimes to remux the videos into HLS based on the client when streaming remotely.

Also adding tuner stats when live streaming remotely would be nice.

This is very odd. Direct Remote is not a scenario that really exists, so if you could Submit Diagnostics from the app after you see that, it would be helpful for identifying what the bug is that is causing this to be displayed.

We are planning on doing this when we get the chance. Some of the infrastructure is in place for it, but there's still more to do.

The latest release has fixed this to just say “Direct”

Also, there’s a fix for your unusual setup that ensures local HDHRs are connected to locally. There was a situation that we had not considered where:

  • The client is on the same network as the DVR and HDHR
  • The DVR is blocking connections on the local network to the client
  • The DVR can reach the HDHRs
  • The client can reach the HDHRs
  • Tuner Sharing is enabled on the client

If all of these conditions were met, it would try to establish a direct HDHR connection via the DVR instead of connecting directly to the HDHR.

With this fix, it now connects directly to the HDHR in this case.
