So I know this was a priority for y'all based on past posts, is there a tvOS tech reason why it can't be done? I chase watch sports all the time and ended up buying Amazon's Fire TV Max on sale recently just to get faster playback speed while I'm watching a recording in progress, because it's available on Android but not on Apple.
it used to be on the apple tv for a while, then it disappeared. when we brought it up, we were told we were mistaken. 
It was there for a short time and it was a bug.

Honestly, speed settings shouldn’t be on live tv and in progress recordings on Android either, that’s a bug. Once it catches up to live, it will not be great.
Well if it's a bug, it really shouldn't be. Tivo's had this feature for years and there has to be a way to catch up to live without breaking playback. When TiVo catches up to live it simply reverts back to normal speed. I honestly wouldn't mind if playback just stopped and you had to hit play to resume, or if it just bombed out to the recordings screen for example.
Y'all might not use it but it is a very handy feature to have.
