As the subject, if our servers are able to do so efficiently enough, can we have the option to transcode active recordings, or even just-finished recordings, to a more efficient file storage option, such as 264/265 ?

Yeah...while I would like an option to transcode any recordings to HEVC or AV1, there's already tools out there that can do the job (eg. Tdarr, Unamic, Plex Cleaner, Fileflows).
Right now I use Tdarr. I can share my custom plugins and stack if you want
I'd be interested in something like this - primarily because the recordings files are larger than I'd like. Any way to adjust some settings to have smaller files produced? 264 MKV would be good for that.
No. As stated previously—across multiple threads—recordings are stored in the exact same manner as they are received into a MPEG-TS container to maintain fidelity.
