Did you mean to recommend an unbalanced splitter? I would think with the the described scenario a balanced splitter with say -5.5dB per leg would be preferable.
A traditional 3 way should be fine. Unless you are in a position where 2db is going to make or break the reception
I'm happy to report that splitting up the signals between the original aerial antenna and the new antenna has helped in alleviating the signal errors.
I'm also in the process of shortening some of the cable runs in the attic to help with any signal loss. Once those are done, I bought another 8-way splitter and I'll test going back that route. If I run into issue again, I'll revert back to the the two antenna setup and then figure out when I'll mount the new antenna outside.
