It would be terrific if we could configure frame-by-frame playback/rewind. For trying to find that perfect moment while watching sports. If not frame-by-frame, then it would be great if we could at least adjust to ~half-second intervals. I'm using Nvidia Shield if that matters.

This is a good idea.
Sometimes when you pause at just the right time. People faces look so funny. I love it when that happens. Frame by frame would make this easier to achieve.
Windows Media Center had this and I used it ALL the time
Btw, WMC did frame-by-frame with this method:
- Pause video playback
- Press FF or RW buttons and you got frame-by-frame
I'd be incredibly excited to see this option.
Or even an option to FF/RW by one second.
But frame-by-frame would truly set you apart from all the other software media options.
