So the HDHomerun needs to be connected to both the antenna and router but technically speaking it doesnt need to go to a TV right?
Yes
I am using 3 HDHomeRun Prime which give me the ability to watch/record 9 different streams. Plus I also purchased two HDFlex 4k which allows for additional local tuners from antenna. My service is Verizon FiOs so I am able to also take advantage of the TV Everywhere feature. I am running a NAS so I am also able to integrate Pluto and Stirr via the container station. Channels is the perfect tool to integrate all these services into one platform. I tend loose some DRM Content that is protected like HBO and Cinemax, but I use the app. For my viewing I use an NVIDIA Shield on each tv separately that acts like a satellite. Also, another great feature is when I travel, I am able to stream via the Channels phone app or I will bring a NVIDIA Shield.
I think a year ago there was an FCC ruling that cable companies are no longer required to provide cable cards, so check and see if your provider still offers cards.
I highly recommend Channels DVR!
Ive been with Channels DVR for over a year now and love it but man do I miss locast!!!! Since then my main channels from fox cbs NBC abc have been disappearing constantly when I use my sister's dish and my parents Mediacom so I bought a hdhomerun and I have a tv antenna outside on a pole that was here when we bought the house and I BELIEVE it's run to the living room but I don't know yet so if that antenna isn't run I'm going to be kinda screwed with hdhomerun too lol
Just remember that a antenna is directional. Make sure you point it in the direction for best service. The reason that I purchased 2 HDFlex 4k is that I'm running 2 different antennas pointed in 2 different directions that will allow for best service. I'm located in Central Massachusetts so I have one pointed to the Boston (east) area and the other pointed Springfield/Connecticut (WSw) area I'm picking up 96 stations on one antenna (East) and 69 stations (WSw) on the other. Some stations there is overlap. I have the antennas mounted in the attic so I am loosing some signal strength.
There is a good app called antenna point (transmitter locator) that will provide broadcasting antenna direction and distance.
my main channels are about 42 miles away. Im in Illinois so no mountains so tons of trees and no tall buildings. Any suggestions on antennas?
Go to antennaweb.org and enter your address. It will tell you what kind of antenna you need and where to point it.
From your text, I assume that your Nas is Qnap and you where able to setup your pluto custom channel script in a docker built into container station
Would you mind sharing some detailed on how you did this. I am having difficulties working with dockers on qnap
Thanks
I just simply followed the details on the link above.
I think the key is setting up the correct ports....
