Help adding TV programs that have no "season" noted

I am adding a collection of TV shows from my DVDs. Each disc has several episodes of the program, but nowhere is the season or episode number denoted.

I ripped the first DVD and assigned it as Season 1 and then numbered the episodes as 1 thru 6. Through a lot of trial and error, I did get the TV programs to show where they could be accessed in my Library TV Shows menu. I was unable to get ChannelsDVR to recognize each episode and add a thumbnail for each.

I followed the notes on the subject, so I have:

M:/TV/The Lucy Show

This picked up the folder under "The Lucy Show" which I named Season 1 (even though that is not correct since I have no idea which season each episode came from). This did give me a Lucy Show thumbnail in the TV Shows Library.

When I used: M:/TV/The Lucy Show/Season 1 - I got a generic thumbnail in my TV Shows menu. It showed the episodes, but showed them twice - once with the episode name and once without the episode name.

I'm still a newbie at all this. Can someone give me some guidance on how to add TV programs to my TV Show menu when there is no season or episode number. All I have is disc 1 thru 6 - each with several episodes. The Episode menu does give the name of the episode: i.e. Lucy Gets A Roommate, Lucy Meet Robert Goulet etc. - but does not say what season each came from or the episode number from a season.

I hope I have explained my problem where it is understood. Any help is appreciated!

/tv/The Lucy Show/Season 1/s01e01.mp4
/tv/The Lucy Show/Season 1/s01e02.mp4

And so on.

The format I gave won’t get the title though. It sounds like you’re just entering the titles for file names.

You can keep doing thst. But you’ll have to manage the season numbers yourself.

Be sure you fetch the pre-release version of Channels DVR Server. It has the ability to Edit Metadata. From there you can change the season and episode numbers for recordings.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I actually put S01E01 etc even though I have no idea what the season and episode number is. It didn't seem to help. Below is a screen shot of how I named the files. Is this incorrect?

If you're like me, there are some things I will import but don't care what Season or Episode someone thinks they are. I just want the Episode Title and Description to be correct. Bonus if I can get the artwork for the show.

Channels DVR uses Gracenote guide data to match Show/Episode imports.
If your files are named precisely like Gracenote has the data they import correctly.
You can see what Gracenote has for the show by looking it up at zap2it.com.

You can then either spend lots of time renaming all your files to match what it has or fix incorrect matches after importing, just to get the right Artwork, Episode Titles and Descriptions.

Ot use the new Metadata Editing feature to add Artwork and edit the Episode Titles and Descriptions.

Either way it's extra work, but should only have to be done once when you import them.

Thanks for the help. If I don't know what season the episodes come from, do I just assign a random season number or leave off the season.

I'm probably making this harder than it should be. I don't really care to know the season # or episode # - I just want to be able to access them from Channels.

From what I've read if the season and episode are left off, Channels doesn't pull them in correctly.

I'll keep working at it. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then!

Channels DVR uses the S#E# to identify episodes.
I found that leaving that (S#E#) out of the filename and putting all the episodes in the show folder allows you to fix match by using just the episode title.
See my example here where I Changed the local import file structure
(Cannot fix incorrect match on local content import - #6 by chDVRuser)

Thanks. I'll do some tweaking to see if I can a similar results. I appreciate your reply!

Thanks for the advise. Where would I locate the pre-release version of Channels DVR. I've looked on the GetChannels website and don't seem to find it. Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Thanks. I used the update pre-release. It looked like it was installing. I then got a message saying my browser needed to be refreshed. I did so, but my version shows the same as before the pre-release install. I can't see that anything has changed and the version number is the same as before.

Is there some area that I would need to look at to notice any changes made with the pre-release?

Thanks for the help!

Check in the DVR Log (Support dropdown) for any errors

Thanks. For some reason, my server wouldn't update. After I read your post and checked my log, I tried again and it did update to the pre-release version. Nothing changed, so not sure why it would update before.

I appreciate you taking the time to help! Thanks!
