How do you automatically remove commercials from DVR recordings?

I am running my Channels DVR on a 2012 Mac Mini 2.5ghz 500gb SSD with 16g ram. The channels software performs perfectly both on my in home 4th gen Apple TVs as well as remotely on my iPhone.

What is the file format for the stored recording with using the DVR? Can the channels server software automatically cut out commercials to reduce file size?

The DVR is not able to remove commercials. You can skip them during playing by clicking the right side of the remote twice (or double tapping the +30s icon on iOS).

Same here. I think it was something on a CBC station we were watching the other night: The commercial markers were way off. Began late and ended way too late, IIRC. I wouldn't be surprised to find they don't all mess with transitions on a regular basis specifically to frustrate automated commercial break detection. I know I would.
