Intel arc

I am wondering if the arc a310 is compatible with channels dvr under ubuntu. thanks.

It should be. Even an old RaPi works with Channels so something new should do fine

Intel arc for transcoding not supported.

Can we add support. I hate to spend $600 on a a2000 when a $100 a310 will do.

Doesn't Intel Arc GPU's support Intel QuickSync?

Yeah but it’s a different driver. On my Plex server I needed to install a bunch of specific Intel ARC drivers for it.

Channels has that hardware transcode detection test that goes through and checks the existence and capability of NVENC, i915, etc so my guess would be that process doesn’t have support for the ARC driver and hardware yet?

I definitely hope it’s planned though, future Intel CPU’s are going to have embedded GPU’s much closer to ARC hardware than the current architecture, so you’d think supporting it would help with future Intel iGPU support if they end up using the same driver for both.

If I have an igpu and an arc gpu both enabled on my server running ubuntu, will channels dvr use the igpu for transcoding. thanks.

Yes

Any idea when Arc support will become available? It's starting to get into kernels and plex looks to support it. The new Intel iGPUs Ultra don't work with channels-dvr either so need some Intel support soon ideally for both Gen 15 iGPUs and Intel Arc platform. Have to run it on a mini server now on the side. I'm using docker images.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

Intel ARC may soon be dead. I been hearing that Intel plans to discontinue it depending on how the next launch goes. So far, Intel has been having some very bad product launches and hardware issues (cpus). All this was briefly discussed on last week WAN show by LTT, and Barnacles Nerdgasim Tech Talk.

Was there any special setup required to make it work in Plex?

Nope. I'm using plexinc/pms-docker and it's detected, in my case, as an "ARC 310" using a Sparkle A310 GPU and (hw) just works. channels-dvr detects the /dev/dri device and says "success" in the logs but it bombs out and throws transcode errors and such, which results in stalls and pauses.

meh. it's not an intel issue....

I updated drivers. It may help on your GPU.

Works! Tested with both ARC A310 and an intel 15th gen 265k iGPU
