Limit disk buffer size

My buffering issue is now gone. I factory reset my Shield and it has been good since.
Based on what I experience, the remaining issues.... Video only freezes for 2 seconds randomly and Audio/Video studdering with Surround Sound enabled while using the Hardware Decoder.....it ONLY happens while watching Live Content.

It seems to me that an easy fix for those remaining issues are to use a software decoder but that makes the image softer and is also causes a problem elsewhere (backlight) with my device.

I rarely see any complaints about recorded content being played from the DVR so in my eyes it makes sense. Oddly enough, Transcoding seems to take care of the last the problems I spoke of above. When transcoding, is the buffering being done on the DVR?

When transcoding, there is a large buffer on the client.
