Local Content from Emby

I have all of my TV Shows and Movies from Emby imported but have 2 questions.

  1. Is the Genre information showing for these files in Channels pulled from Emby or generated by Channels in another way.

  2. If I update my Genres in Emby for a specific Movie (or movies), how would I get that to show in Channels?
I ran the Scan Sources again but I think that just looks for new stuff. How can I update what the Genres now show in Emby for stuff that already exists in Channels?.

I am adding more Virtual Channels and was using Genre to determine what I wanted to show.

Thanks,
Scott

Emby has no bearing on Channels in any way. I assume when you say you imported your "TV Shows and Movies from Emby", you mean you just pointed Channels DVR Server at those folders using the Local Content feature.

All this does is have Channels DVR Server import the content using its own scanners and indexers. Whatever metadata you had in Emby, is not relevant to what's in Channels. And likewise, anything you do or edit in Emby, will not be reflected in Channels.

If you want to edit the genres for your movies and shows, you'll need to do it in Channels.

Here's documentation on our Metadata Editor:

Great, that's what I wanted to know. I was hoping to use the tools in Emby to set specific Genres for the purpose of Virtual Channels. For example I was going to set all of the Marvel movies with a Genre of MCU so I could use that to show just them in a Virtual Channel.
What would be the best way to do this? I am able to search by the "Studio" in Emby but not in channels so I would have to find each one manually, would this be the only way?

Also, I see the Bulk Edit option but that does not look to allow me to bulk add a Genre, right? Maybe I just don't know how to use it right.

Thanks,
Scott

For this case, you should use Labels. That way you’re not sullying your genres. Labels can be used in many ways across Channels with Smart Rules.

Thanks, and the quickest way to do that is manually right? No way to bulk add Labels, right?

I know I can search a Movie, click it, add the label, go back a repeat. Just making sure that's the easiest way before I get into it.

Thanks,
Scott
