It sure looks better to me on the ATSC3.0 channels. NFL, KCRA news all look superior on my Sony A9G monitors. Maybe it’s not 4K yet, but the video quality is much better on the ATSC3.0 channels, IMHO.
I see this type of comment a lot, but a lot of people are unable to pull in the ATSC1 signal or it's wonky, but the same signal is able to be picked up much better with ATSC3. This is the case for me with some channels under some conditions. Lon Seidman can't pick up the ATSC1 signal for a couple local affiliates at all, but the ATSC3 signal allowed him to pull them in... until they were encrypted.
Yes, because it's in true 1080p and with better compression.
Well, in my market, and i can only assume in others...
The end result is they greatly lowered the bitrate of the ATSC 1.0 stations. So they look worse now.
PBS is the most noticeable now that they also "upgraded" to transmitting in both 1.0 and 3.0.
Now the main 1.0 channels are bitrate 5 - 7 Mbps 1080, used to be 10 -12 Mbps.
Most sub channels (1.0) are now bitrate 1 - 1.5 Mbps 480i, a few of them used to be 720p.
The 3.0 main channels are 4 - 6 Mbps. But, being HEVC, supposed to look better.
However, far as what i have read on other form for my market, most of the stations are upscaling or something. So it is not a true 1080p video source.
ABC 3.0 channel, also suffers from super low volume.
The other 3.0 versions of the channels launched, the volume matches their 1.0 versions.
My emails to ABC reporting the issue, gone unanswered.
