CDVR will likely not recognize the OTA tuner. If you want a android tv box the Onn and Google are cheap and work well. If you need a OTA antenna then get a HDHR on ebay or new.
Hmm. My mom doesn’t need a DVR, she just wants live local TV channels most of the time, occasional access to streaming apps, the easiest possible interface, preferably without any HDMI input changes required…
This device could be good for her. I’ll be interested to hear some real-world reviews.

moms do seem a good use case for this product.
kidding aside- something like this is what lead me down the path to find Channels. I wanted something to integrate local channels and other sources all into one app.
This does look like an interesting product.
I also was always looking for something like this and wondered why
no streaming box had an antenna input, there never was one.
This led me to Channels DVR, no regrets there.
It seems expensive... but for a simple setup for a parent, where HDHR cost $150 or more, this $100 seems reasonable to pull in local channels.
Maybe this is a dumb question, but maybe it isn't. The article doesn't make it clear. Does this device also work with ATSC 1.0 channels?
It should - every 3.0 tuner in existence is fine with 1.0 too.
The bigger question is whether or not the android box attached to it is a full-fledged client - i suspect no. It might not have the full app support you think it does.
This dongle is coming soon and is meant to work with full clients (suspicion is the Onn boxes to start)

I’d buy 4 of these if I could plug the dongles into my Channels DVR server, record ATSC3 from it and playback in the Channels app over the network to the MyVelo box(s) or even better my Apple TV’s. Perhaps Mark Jensen and the Channels Team could work together. I’d even pay the MyVelo subscription charge to integrate into CDVR. I know wishful thinking.

Basically, if i can download YTTV and Channels to it, run ATSC3 player, and adbtuner it - that's the dream.
