New TVE issue

Hi all. Hoping for some ideas. I have been a Channels DVR subscriber for a long time via Nvidia Shield, used Hulu Live as my TVE source. The other sources I have is OTA via HDHomeRun, OTA via Tablo and Pluto. All of a sudden, the Hulu channels started giving me "authorization failed" and "wrong password" errors. I updated the password and tried again and again, still the same errors, but Hulu Live worked perfectly via the Hulu app. I tried deleting Hulu from TVE and re-adding it, it refuses to add, the box that opens says "wrong password. please update your password and try again". However, the password is fine. I spent an hour on the phone with Hulu, they confirmed my password is fine, it works properly on the Hulu apps both on the tv and pc. In frustration, I signed up tonight for a 1 month trial with YouTube TV and tried to include that via TVE instead of Hulu, including the registration on the NBC site. Google won’t let me sign up YouTube TV either via TVE because it says there is a security problem although I had no problem accessing it on my laptop. The message says "Blocked by Google. This browser or app may not be secure. Try using a different browser. If you're already using a supported browser you can try again to sign in".

I tried to do this with 4 browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. The same problem and message with all of them. Due to my work, my system is very secure. So the only other possibility I can think of is that there is some sort of incompatibility now with the Channels app and the TVE login. Everything else works fine, it seems unlikely that the rejection can be due to any of my 4 browsers, my system or my password.

Thoughts / suggestions greatly appreciated !

I’m in the exact same boat as you…
Lots of topics on this already
I’ve been searching since yesterday but have not found a working solution yet

I had looked at a lot of the topics too, they seemed similar but not identical, and the fact that YouTube TV also refused to authenticate seems like a new wrinkle.

I just signed up for YoutubeTV trial and had no problem adding TVE to my ChannelsDVR hosted on Windows 11.

I had tried from Windows 10 and also from my iPhone phone app…

I keep all my Systems up to date and also use my Providers DNS (Comcast) no fancy DNS here. I just keep it simple.

I would make sure no TVE is installed ... update to latest pre-release ... reboot my Server PC and try again.

It doesn’t matter what device or browser you initiate the scan from. The server uses an incognito chrome browser tab to try the authentication.

Exactly the same with me.

I know just enough to set up a basic home network. As soon as you start adding firewalls, DNS servers, etc. I can get lost. So it's better for me to remove any potential sources of complications. Keep everything on my network simple.

If it works, don't touch it.

If you really want to try and get it going save a backup on your current server and install the server and restore from backup on your windows machine. Scan your TVE. If that works you MAY be able to move those TVE cookies back to your current server by saving a backup on the windows machine and restoring back to your current server.

I would also strongly suggest a Hulu password change to something never used before immediately before trying to scan Hulu in as a source.

Thank you. I really do want to try to get this going, I’ve used it for years with no issues exactly the way it was. Can you explain the steps to accomplish what you recommend, I’m a very basic user. In the conversation with Hulu, they had me change the password a couple of times, which I did, and tried with each of the new passwords, none of them worked. I’m also puzzled by the message from Google with respect to the YouTube TV attempt, stating there is a security issue with the app.

For the record I don’t know if all this will work. I do know when I restore from backup it brought the cookies with it. YMMV

If you are using the shield as a server you should also know the developers have stopped supporting it as a server. They have said they won’t intentionally break it or stop it from working but they will not test new releases and updates on it. If an update does break it they are likely not going to fix it.

It may be time to look at other options like a Beelink mini pc with N95 or N100 cpu. This is a great time to buy them on Amazon with holiday prices.

Thank you. Apparently that is the issue and it is fatal. I was using the Shield as a server, and apparently they decided to kill it. Below is what I received today from Channels support. I wasn't looking for a project, but I guess one found me. Is there a "how to" describing how to set one of those up as a server ?

Hulu and YouTubeTV both have enhanced security systems on their login systems which block certain operating systems from connecting. The NVIDIA SHIELD is one of the platforms that they block. There is going to be nothing that you or us can do to make it work with the NVIDIA SHIELD. Both Hulu and YouTubeTV continually implement more and more security updates, which is why it has been working for a long time and no longer is. I'm sorry I don't have better news for you.

Yeah...the Shield isn't a good server device. Get a real computer or a mini PC install linux, docker and portainer and run Channels from there and use the Shield as a client.

I didn't think Synology would provide any security issues though

is this an ISP issue or a hardware issue?

Based on the email I received from Channels Support, it’s really both. The providers have changed their security to exclude Nvidia Shields as servers for their TVE programming. Not sure how that would impact Synology though.
