Whether it works in mpv is irrelevant because we don't use mpv or ffmpeg for HLS.

You never stated you were using an M1 Mac. Also, an Intel version of mpv would work just fine, but that's unnecessary, as Homebrew offers pre-built M1 versions of mpv, too: mpv — Homebrew Formulae
