Can channels be set to automatically prefer a certain source when recording channels present on multiple sources?
Like if I have ABC via both HDHR and TVE, can I set channels to use TVE every time without having to choose the TVE version of the channel?
No, but you can set the preferred channel number,
There are two ways to deal with this.
When tow channels have the same programming, set one of the channels as "Favorite" and the other as not favorite or not available..
On the server, reorder the sources. All things being equal, the source at the top will be selected over the ones below.
I think that knowing how Channels DVR picks the channel to record an airing from a pass will help you figure out how to set things up the way you want them.

That is the default behavior for series passes you create.
You obviously can adjust it by changing your source priorities and favoriting/hiding channels.
You can also modify a pass to have it record from only certain channel numbers or exclude channel numbers.
The options become mind numbing.
