Good, that's expected behavior given the error you are generating.
What is the host? How is the folder structure shared (directly between Containers, through the host, something else)? Please don't be stingy with details and give me everything you can so we are not going back and forth on this.
In the Channels Container, go to Imports\TV\slm and delete the 1883 (2021) folder if there is one. Then, re-run generating the stream links (you don't need to do the other steps, that will suffice) and see in the logs if you get more errors, specifically around directory creation. If not, check to see if the directory has been created there and let me know. Further, check the security/access permissions on all levels of the directories.
Basically, here's what's happening and where the problem points could be:
- Creates the necessary endpoint directory, i.e.
\Imports\TV\slm\1883 (2021)\Season 01. - Checks to see if the directory exists and loops around a few times waiting for it appear to make sure it isn't a timing problem.
- If the directory is found to exist, attempts to create the file and put the Stream Link inside of it.
Any failure during this is likely related to security/privileges/access. To be clear, that would mean they are not SLM issues, but that something is going on with your specific setup.

My gut tells me this was due to my order of operations from the original post, somehow:
Thinking maybe the deletion did something weird on just that object's perm. Def. a weird one, though.
Well, I'm glad it is resolved, at least! I doubt those steps could cause the issue because they are fairly mundane, everyday activities that were hashed out back in Alpha. Does still seem like a permissions issue of some kind since deleting the directories freed up SLM to create them again with no problems. But for now, guess we'll just move on. Still, should something similar happen again, let me know!
So I tried to flip back to latest tag, and it's all falling over again, and it's not consistent on the same program/season either.
I don't think it's a perms issue, either - the files all have same perms, it just creates a 0 byte file, and that is where it bombs out.

Please stick to the Prerelase for the time being because it has fixed the error you are showing and gives way more debugging information. I'll get it into the full release eventually.
Are those permissions in the Channels container? Does the SLM user in that container have the same rights?
Also, let's get you started from the beginning. Delete the entire /Imports/TV/slm and Imports/Movies/slm directories and then run the automation to generate stream links. DO NOT import update from Channels first, just do the generation step.

Perms were direct on the host - my thinking was that if the Docker container can 1) work with other items in the same directory which 2) all have the same filesystem perms - it's not perms.

I'm back on main with just generate stream links run. Looking OK so far.
The changes that were made in prerelease to fix the UX crashing in this situation and all the new debugging are now in the main release as of v2026.08.21.1518 of Streaming Library Manger. If you are on the main tag, please switch back to latest to get this and all the new features!

As of v2026.09.12.1244, both of these functions are available in PLM. Additionally, there has been a massive performance boost in generating playlists and guide files. In my testing, it was around 95% faster and less resource intensive. Read about this and more in the release notes and on the Wiki!
I just updated to the 9/12/26 release and I'm reassigning all my stations (I lost them in the upgrade, again). Anyway, as I set the Parent Stations to Ignore/Make Parent/etc. it crashes and I get this. It never happened in previous versions. Is this a known issue or something with me?

I was already going to release it this morning, but you beat me to the punch. Thanks to @KineticMan for pointing to the issue of net new installs not being able to assign parents due to a change I made in the prior version and a possible fix.
Also in this version PLM related, you can now import/assign the tvg-shift tag to adjust guide data in Channels (most notably for TCM West), as well as notifications about child station updates are more limited to accommodate how FastChannels works, particularly with channel numbers and logos.
Once again, you should never, ever, ever, ever, ever have this situation so long as the Program Files are protected and saved. One way you could cause this is if you are sitting in the program_files or other parent SLM directories during an upgrade, or if you have some process that has them locked. Another might be if you are using Docker and have not set up a persistent volume. Both of this situations are discussed on the Wiki, as well as best practices for upgrades:

Regarding me losing my settings, it's likely a me thing and how I'm running Docker on my Synology NAS. It's a little more difficult to understand. Either way, a fresh install never hurts.
I think I asked this last year, but is there anyway to sort by channel number to easily place the channels in the order I want instead of having to scroll through all the channels randomly?

However, you can already use filtering; you don't have to scroll.
Or you can use More Parents to go one at a time.
