Our internet then was slower and the odd moment of buffering would cause it to fall behind and she had no clue how to proceed if channels asked her if she really wanted to change channels because what she was watching was behind real time.

There's a setting called Buffer Protection that can be disabled to get rid of that pop-up:

Unfortunately she recently had to to go into the nursing home. But I'll keep that in mind if she gets to come home. That really was the only thing that made this work-around with Tivimate worthwhile for her. I manually edited the M3U down to just the stations she wanted but I could have done the same thing in the Channels app on her TV.

Thanks for the information and as I said even with the workaround Channels made it possible for her to enjoy TV more than she did when she had cable. There are probably a lot more like her that don't want to learn a new way of doing things and are stuck with traditional TV but would otherwise enjoy it - kind of a jitterbug phone for TV.
