Single bay Synology NAS w/ 4K support

I was curious if anyone knew how well this NAS will work. It’s their new DS118.

I want to find an affordable way to replace my 10 yr old computer running the DVR to a more power efficient system like a NAS setup. I usually have no more than 3 recordings at a time while watching a recording. I also was looking at their DS216+ and DS216Play.

The ARM CPU isn’t going to do transcoding.
DS216+ would work well, though.

DS218+ is a newer model at ~ same price (or lower).

In reviewing forums, etc., it seems to me that a mini pc + Usb 3.0 disk would be a better choice as a dedicated server for Channels. See Mac Mini.

Thanks. I just was curious since it states it can transcode 4K seemed like an inexpensive way to go if it could work. I have thought about a mini pc or NUC.

This model uses proprietary hardware transcoder which only works with Video Station. Other apps like Channels DVR and Plex are unable to use it.
