I haven't tried it, but reading the original topic I see these pointed out
Yeah was hoping they would consider instead of cueing the up next card with a timer the same duration as the rest of the ep, that it would just automatically play the next ep once up to credits marker.
If I’m in the kitchen doing something I’ve sometimes had shows with credits 2 mins long that I just have to sit through. Would be nice for them to be auto skipped rather than require you manually skip.
The idea is that, the marker where we detect credits, is used to cue the Up Next card.
But that of course relies on detected credits, otherwise the Up Next card shows with 20s left in the episode, as it did before.
Check that you've enabled detection on your show, and are seeing detections. It's possible you don't have enough episodes, or credits just aren't getting detected by the system. The feature is in Preview mode, it's not perfect.
Check out the docs on the feature to learn more about how it works and how to check if you're getting any detections: Channels Support - Intro & Credits Detection (Preview)
Yeah I think I understand all the settings now and they’re all functioning as intended.
Was more so suggesting an option to not have the auto play come up and instead just skip the credits/go onto the next episode immediately, like the auto settings works with intro and commercial.
Understand if that’s not the direction you want it to go, but every time I have an extended credits while my hands are busy I find myself wishing for autoskip.
Auto Play does auto skip. That’s the point. The idea of a credit skip doesn’t fit in with how Channels was designed. Consider that with Auto Play, that’s already built in.
Watch show -> Next Up card shows -> counts down and auto skips to the next episode.
All hands free.
You can learn more about Auto Play in our docs:
Yeah that’s all good:) if it’s not how you guys envision it working then I’ll just have to live with it.
Was just suggesting would be cool to have an option to set the auto skip to trigger at the start of the credit marker instead of waiting for the timer - which is just the remaining time of the episode/credits.
I’m trying to explain that it’s the same thing. It’s the same result as what you’re asking for
Let me try again. With proper credit detection, the up next up card is displayed right when the credits start.
This is the auto play feature. It can be configured to automatically play the next episode.
This obviates the need for skipping credits because our auto play is how you get to the next episode, and it can be configured to be automatic.
Sorry about the going in circles.
Yes I believe I understand the current implementation.
But the ‘auto’ part of what you’re saying happens at the end of the credits, not the start of the credits when the show has ended.
So the fact that the credits skip can only be triggered manually is what I’m arguing.
All the ‘auto’ autoplay options will only go to the next ep at the end of the video file. So all I’m saying is I feel there should be an option to trigger the next ep from the start of the credits.
It only starts at the beginning of the credits, if your video has credits detected.
Does your video have credits detected? Have you used the tools we have, to check?
The card comes up at the start of the credits.
Play Next episode - brings up the card with a timer (timer is the same as the remaining duration of the video file)
Prompt - bring up the card with no timer
Play next episode w/p prompt - no card, plays next ep at conclusion of episode/at the end of credits
So my suggestion is for the credits to trigger the next episode instead of triggering the card as the card either waits for the end of the episode or manual input.
Ok what you are describing is a bug then. As that is not what it’s expected to do, based on how I described it many times. As I said before, it should countdown just about 20 seconds. It’s just a matter of when it’s cued to show
Please submit diagnostics from your Channels app the next time you see it, and let us know what the episode was.
We’ll look right into it.
Ahh okay.
No wonder we were going in circles.
Alright I’ll play some videos with known credits markers with each of the settings enabled and then I’ll submit the diagnostics.
So to be clear, which of those options I described is acting erroneous?
Is play next episode without prompt essentially the option I am proposing?
Thanks
Edit: sorry I see you said countdown should be 20sec which seems reasonable. Definitely getting the duration as the remainder of the show.
Yes. But it prompts with a countdown. Like 20s. To give you an opportunity to cancel it or skip right away.
This is how it worked before the big update, just closer to the end of the episode. But with credits detection, we were able to make it better by cueing it at a more relevant time.
Yep got you now.
Should be 20second timer for the ‘auto skip’ trigger.
Both play next episode (prompt and no prompt) are getting to the end of the episode before playing next on the videos I’m testing which is around 1 min. With the timer it’s showing a countdown from 60 seconds too.
I’ve just submitted my diagnostics from my Apple TV after using each of the options.
Thanks for your help.
Are you seeing a countdown at all for the Play next episode setting? Only Prompt is static. The other should show seconds in a countdown.
Play next Episode has a card with timer with remaining time of full video
Prompt has a card with no timer and I go back to the menu if not pressed
Play Next Episode without prompt has no card but plays next episode at the end of the video
This should be resolved in the latest TestFlight beta:
Working perfectly on my iPhone.
Cheers for that and sorry for the confusion at first.
