So what's going to happen soon when Google starts to require all accounts to have 2FA turned on? Will Channels no longer work using YTTV? Hope they will allow us to opt out from using it
Already being discussed on the YTTV TVE thread here:
We’re hoping there may be some ways around it, but unsure yet.
There are several types of 2FA you can choose with Google:
- Physical security key (not a good idea in the case of Channels)
- OTP (not a good idea in the case of Channels)
- Phone prompts - I use this method for the account that I use with Channels. It's a PAIN, but basically you press "Yes" on your phone prompt while Channels is scanning the channels.
Does that “yes press” have to be done only at scanning, one time for each station? Or more frequent like when you turn on tv or change channels? I’ve got all the pieces and parts to build Raspberry Pi 4 DVR using YTTV but I’m really hesitant to jump. I’ve got a few more days to return antenna and all to Amazon.
During the scan, I have to press yes for some of the channels, not all of them. Maybe 20-25 times. After that on rare occasion I'll get the prompt again months later for just one channel -- normally it's Discovery/HGTV.
