unfortunately not much better - I uploaded the video logs for you to look at. I really appreciate your help on this.
Hmm. According to the logs the stream is corrupt.
Is this happening on every single channel?
Are you using a splitter with the antenna signal?
This may seem counter-intuitive⦠But I have also seen situations where the signal might actually be too strong. I have seen this with Connects via OTA and Connects/Prime on ClearQAM and Prime on CC when getting a signal from fios ONTs.
[Although the changes were not officially mentioned in the SD changelogs, I do believe that one of the firmware updates changed some items with tuner sensitivityā¦]
If you have access to one, try an RF attenuator to reduce the signal strength. If not, try daisy chaining 2-4 splitters between the antenna and the RF in of the tuner.
Edit:
Depending on how old the device is⦠There could also be another possibility (tough I have not seen it with Connects or Extends, but have with older HDHRs and the Prime, though rare)⦠You may be having an issue with the power supply for the unit⦠(what sometimes happens is that after a while some power supplies do not produce a clean power feed (right voltage and amperage but issues with the feed so a simple multi-meter does not see an issue). The symptoms are similar to what you describe or it may work with one tuner, but as soon as a subsequent tuner is activated all channels stutter or freeze or other strangeness. If you have a compatible or spare power supply from another device, try it and see if it resolves the issue. If it is the power supply and the unit is out of warranty, SD has them for sale at a nominal cost from [email protected] or you can get compatible ones off of Amazon. Be sure to follow the specs for the power supplies which are:

Another thing to try: Iāve heard several anecdotal reports that the branded Ethernet cable that comes with the hdhomerun can cause problems. I have several hdhomeruns and have never had a issue, but itās worth swapping the cable to see if thereās any difference.
Teddy R - thanks for the ideas. I am using a powered-indoor Terk Antenna. So I thought about your āoverpoweredā idea. I switched the antenna (and coax cable to the HDHomerun from the antenna, just in case) with an old un-powered Silver Sensor indoor antenna. I also tried the idea of switching the HD Homerunās power cord. Switched the network cable to the Powerline as well.
The Channels app is showing a little better video performance but still stutters a lot. Iāve uploaded another batch of video sample data from the Channels test app.
Let me know if it shows anything that needs changing in the app software.
could you rollback to the Channels app version before 2.1.5 in the test flight version you sent me? I could then re-test my video performance with that prior version. If the video performance improves then it proves that something in the fine-tuning done to the tuning of OTA signals that came with 2.1.5 may be causing the problems that I am seeing.
I really donāt think its my HD Homerun, its RJ45 cable, its powercord, the antenna, the antenna signal strength or quality, my home network, the Powerline, etcā¦
The change in 2.1.5 does not affect you, otherwise you would be able to watch the stream in VLC or InstaTV Pro.
Can you capture a sample from the tuner and send to [email protected]?
Say your tuner is 10.0.0.5 and an example channel is 4.1, visit this URL in Chrome to download a 30s sample:
Thatās ok thanks. Iām going to work the issue from my end. I do appreciate all the ideas and help. Iām going to try plugging in my Powerline in a different wall electrical outlet. I think this may be contributing to the internet signal to the Apple TV having issues.
Latency on powerline can definitely cause issues. If you can try a direct Ethernet cable to the router (even temporarily) to compare that would help narrow things down.
OK that did it! There was something wrong with the electrical outlet that the HD Homerunās Powerline (for internet access) was plugged into. I got a longer cable and ran it from a different electrical outlet across the room ⦠and the picture is perfect!
Sorry to consume so much of everyoneās time⦠I can now try out some of the new DVR options.
Glad we got to the bottom of this!
Thanks for your help. Something to add to your troubleshooting list for the future if someone else complains about video quality.
I am new to the cord cutting and love the idea of Channels but still trying to understand how to troubleshoot more quickly.
My current setup is a ATV 4G, Terk powered Antenna and HD HomeRun extend with a QNAP NAS for DVR using Channels Beta, by far the best user-friendly option Iāve seen for dvr programming.
I get the stutter on every channel, but not at the same point in the broadcast (sometimes immediate, sometimes 2 min in but never more that 5-7 minutes before first occurance).
I started trying to use the antenna upstairs but my router is on the first floor and I donāt have the necessary ethernet to run between floors. I have a fairly large home (3K+sq ft) to deal with. I have moved my antenna to different rooms in the house right now itās taped directly to a window on my first floor.
I am using a separate ethernet cable with the HDHR box as suggested above, but that had no impact.
Any other suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Where do I collect the data for logging so it can be investigated?
Thanks!
Any luck here?
I am having the same issue on one of my apple tvs
If I record it then I can watch the recording & it works normally.
