I reported it a year ago and support drug their feet and then gave up on it. It's still not fixed.
Without more information there's not a lot to go on.
- Was the airing highlighted red (recording) when you clicked it?
- What type of source were you recording from?
- Had the app been open for a while? Was it a fresh boot? Did it resume from being backgrounded?
The more information you can provide about the content and context that you're seeing this bug, the better, as it's not been something we've been able to reproduce.
It's super easy to reproduce. I can reproduce it at will anytime.
The recording has to be a live event, such as an NFL game.
- Yes
- Antenna
- Open for a while. I never close Channels
If you look at my video, it shows it in action. Watch IMG_3075 | Streamable
I talked to support several times regarding this. You should be able to pull up our email chain going back and forth. I submitted several diagnostics reports.
Steps to reproduce:
- Schedule a recording of a live event sometime in the future
- Once the event has started recording, choose the event from the guide
- Note how no prompt is displayed asking to choose to watch the recording or from live
- Force quit the app
- Go to the guide again and choose the same event
- Note how the prompt is now displayed
Yes, highlighted in Red. Source is DirecTV via ADBTuner. And, yes, the app would generally have been open for about a day. I use the TestFlight version and so it updates regularly.
The next time this happens, immediately submit diagnostics from the Channels app, and please report in here that you did it, and describe the airing that did not work:
- Airing title
- Airing season/episode
- date and time
- Channel Number
I just tested it again on a non-live event (Let's Make a Deal) and it happened even for that, so it's not exclusive to live tv
I submitted Diagnostics.
- Let's Make a Deal
- Season 16, Episode 128
- 9/10/25, 2pm MDT
- 2.1
The bug is very easy to reproduce
Steps to reproduce:
- Schedule a recording of a program sometime in the future
- Once the event has started recording, choose the event (highlighted in red) from the guide
- Note how no prompt is displayed asking to choose to watch the recording or from live
Not exclusive to live tv? I don't understand.
This is a feature that prompts, from the guide, to watch the recording if it's in your library.
Diagnostics submitted. TVOS TestFlight app. The Five on channel 3047 (self numbered). Interesting that I just tried this from the IOS app running on MacOS and it worked as expected.
Ya, there's tv that's live (ie. a live football game) vs a pre-recorded show (Let's Make a Deal). I usually only DVR live football games so I thought it was exclusive to that but it's not
OK, we call all of that live tv here. Whether something is currently being broadcast in real time has no effect on anything in the software.
This may be resolved in the latest TestFlight beta:
I'll let you know what I see over the next few days. Fingers crossed....
