Web Playback never starts, ffmpeg errors. All other clients are fine

I have the latest version of channels dvr running on docker, which is in a Debian virtual machine on proxmox, which is running on a Dell R730XD with 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2683 v4 @ 2.10GHz, and 384 gigs of ECC ram. Channel's storage is a samba share on TrueNAS Scale virtual machine via a virtual network interface which connects the 2 virtual machines.

Playback from any channels app works fine. Both on mobile and Chromecast.

This issue happens both from recorded content as well as live streaming content from either web sources, or hdhr prime sources. They simply will not play via the web. I've tried Chrome and Firefox. Same ailments.

Playback of the file mentioned below (or any file) also works fine in VLC via the SMB share to the Windows 11 PC. All hard drives are fine, no errors.

Ok, I moved channels from docker to a brand new debian vm I set up, and I am getting the same issues. The storage share is the same, so I'll try messing with that.

It will stream for maybe 2/10 of a second, then stop. After it stops, nothing can be streamed from the web, and no new stream information will show in the log. Recording will continue however.

I know I posted a lot, but in the first post I mentioned it plays fine in VLC as well as any other client. Just not the web.

I'm making progress.... I just switched from an open samba share to a NFS share, and streaming now works, but I'm fighting other bugs now. It doesn't make much sense to me, but that's where I am at.

This seems to have strangely solved the problem. As has been frequent in my IT career, "I can't tell you why it happened, but this is what I did to fix it".

Perhaps a simple test, but if you have a Windows PC, use the web UI playback with VLC integration to see if it works (server doesn't remux/transcode, so should be the same as using a client). Sounds like using the web UI player causes an issue because the server is remuxing/transcoding and you're using a remote (SMB/NFS) recording directory where temp files and traffic are flying back and forth.

Also looks like the video index for that recording is incorrect (index 65:42, file 53:37).
Did you cut parts of the recording out?

I didn't modify the video in any way. It finished recording, I hit play from the web.

It played fine from my phone.

It was happening with live streams as well. If I went to guide, and tried to play anything at all from the web, I would get ffmpeg errors, and it wouldn't play.

The thing I changed that allowed web streaming (so far) was instead of a samba share, I switched to a NFS share. The files, permissions, and network connection is exactly the same. I literally stopped the channels service, unmounted the samba share, set up the share on truenas and mounted the nfs share, and restarted the channels service.

Let's see if this also fixes the interrupted recordings I kept having.

Other than the final transcoded stream going to my pc, the data never really flies anywhere. It goes from one virtual lan port on a vm to another. It never even makes it to the switch. I have 35 VMs set up like this and so far channels has been the only thing that seems to not be happy about it.

Didn't realize you had those. I'll back out and let the devs work with you. Sounds like you had multiple issues with your setup.

Thanks for the ideas. Yes, I've had several issues but I'm guessing there could be multiple issues. I did get the HDHR Prime used, so who knows its life story.

On my phone, I did have the both the hdhr app and channels open to the same channel and the feed from channels dropped while hdhr app never hiccuped
