What does capture:// do?

I've been seeing references to updates to the dvr/clients related to capture:// such as "FIXED: capture:// alsa not working"

I searched the forums, but I can't find any specific information about what capture:// is or does. Anyone know?

With the latest DVR pre-release, you can more easily hook up a USB camera or HDMI capture dongle to your DVR. As compared to the LinkPI and other encoder boxes, these dongles don't usually offer transcoding. Thank you for the reply. A couple of clarifying questions...

1. I have a LinkPi Encoder, but never go around to setting it up (yet). Does this work with LinkPi encoders, or only the dongles?

2. Is this so the system can record programs via a capture method instead of TVE? I tried CC4C many months ago, but the performance was less than ideal.

3. Are there any recommendations on what dongles work best and how they perform?

4. Do you know if it will use the quicksync on my Intel i7-9700k? I don't have a dedicated graphics card in my system.

If you already have a linkpi use that. //capture is very new and still has some bugs. //capture is an attempt to try to replicate the linkpi process at a much lower price. Since you already have a linkpi that would be the best way to go.
