Neat setup. Symlinks are still on the disk and to access them the disk must spin up unless in memory. Then the disk the symlink is pointing to will spin up when accessed.

I just migrated my server from a Rasperry Pi 4 to a BeeLink N95 Mini PC running Windows 11 Pro. I'm using a SSD for my recordings, but wouldn't have thought to do this. Thanks for the tip!
