Would like recordings to take priority

I’ve thought this a few times, but it came up again tonight because we have several shows that overlap on Tuesdays. I have a 3 tuner Prime. For 1 hour all three tuners are used up by recordings. Currently if anyone is using a TV for live viewing the last recording to start will fail. I’d like to be able to give recordings top priority and kick off the live viewing. Could even have a pop up on the live tv giving the option to continue watching and cancel the recording, but I don’t feel like that is totally needed.

It just makes for a stressful Tuesday because my wife’s fav show is what starts last, so when it gets dumped because a tuner was in use she get crabby

You can change priority of the recordings (at the same time). If her show starts 1 second or >, then you must delete/change other recording(s) request.

To be able to view on Channels “DVR” pages, these type of conflicts will only be apparent if Channels DVR allows a “null” entry for recordings requested by another service or anticipated “live” requests. Currently a feature not available on Channels, nor any other DVR, AFAIK.

I’m not sure I follow. I get the setting DVR priority. But that doesn’t matter if someone is watching Live TV on Channels and using a tuner that a scheduled recording would need. It just fails to record. My old Time Warner DVR would pop up a box if I had both tuners set to record and was watching tv. It would give me the choice to either stop the live channel or cancel the recording. I think that would work great.

I agree that scheduled recordings should always take precedence over live tv, unless specifically overridden by the live tv viewer via and on-screen prompt. This is a long-standing shortcoming of Channels DVR IMHO,.

Just a suggestion for Channels to add “a place holder” so that one could view potential upcoming conflicts on DVR page…way in advance (allowing a user to make an informed decision), instead of waiting for a pop-up that waits until time of scheduled recording.

If not possible/feasible, I would rather see a recording take precedence over “live” viewing, thus changing from a “live” viewing to “recording” request, just as you are requesting.

Although, with this process…a recording in progress by another DVR solution…probably wouldn’t be terminated by Channels to then make a tuner available for the conflicting Channel’s recording request.

Of course, this all depends on devs on Channel’s programming and capabilities.

I’d say all bets are off if you are trying to use two DVR softwares, or two live viewers for that matter. At that point I get conflicts can and will happen.

For the most part I agree with you, however, due to Channels DVR not having DRM recording capabilities…my only option is SDDVR.

IMO, SDDVR is the worst DVR solution available in the marketplace…but also is the only one with the (future) possibility to record DRM channels.

As I do not intend to utilize SDDVR on an everyday basis if/when DRM recording is offered, I will elect to use both Channels and SDDVR. I’d love to have a simple way to manage my single Prime for both. Otherwise I will have to be especially vigilant regarding conflicts.
