Is this normal, to have 19 sub processes for Startup for Channels DVR Sever on Win 11 Pro?
I don't think i recall seeing it have this many entries before... Ignore that it is set to disabled.

Are those "Startup apps" or are you looking at Task Manager?
Startup apps tab, in Task Manager.
That shows what programs run at startup.
I don't see any of them in my Task Manager Startup Tab. Do you run channels as part of a login or as a service? I run it as a service. Even if you run it as a login program, I don't know why those would start. You might want to scan your system for viruses.
Good luck,

Service, always have.(at least that is what i selected when i installed the server years back....unless it changed itself at some point??)
EDIT: I just ran the server installer on a test system, and there is NO option to run as service, just installs, and its dialog window is just Open DVR settings (opens Edge to view server web GUI) and Stop DVR Engine.
EDIT2: Oh i see. THis must have changed from years ago, cause i recall it giving u the option at first install, but u have to stop the engine, and re-open the installer, and then it give u option to run as Background service. So, i guess i been running it normally, and not as a service. Not sure of any advantages / disadvantages of such, but, i like and prefer the exposure of it running as a normal user program, vs background service.
EDIT: Excuse my brain fart...i see posts and screen shots from back in 2022 that this has always been the way for run as service.
Virus. lolz
All of those entries point to the .exes in the Channels folder.
They all are removed when i simply uncheck, in the Channels icon tray, Run at startup.
What you are seeing is not normal. Channels does not start them on startup. Something else is. Till you can identify what is is doing this, care is advised. It's your system, your files and your identity. if you were not concerned, why did you post?
U are not a dev, so, thanks for the advice, but, i will wait until a dev chimes in.
The system only runs a few things, has no user activity like web browsing or anything that can cause an infection.
It has no outside connection to the internet other than what i allow it to for Channels to function. Remote acces is even disabled.
This started happening after a server update at some point. I just do not know when. Or maybe a win update is making startup app show strangely. not sure. Why i want one of the devs to advice and see if they have any insight.
I had guesses that Channels does trigger those calls to ffmpeg and such, at startup, as it runs it media probe scans and other essential things. I confirmed that is what those are via Process explorer when i manualy restart Channels.
When channels server starts it runs ffmpeg to probe for hardware capabilities. This can run many times. It happens any time you restart the DVR.
So, is that what i thought then?
For some reason now, Task Manager is exposing those, grouping them under Channels core process.
You stated you have Channels DVR running as a service so it should show up under services in Task Manager. What you displayed appears to be the startup tab from the left side. A few thoughts:
If you restart the Windows box, do the ffmpeg instances go away?
At least we know where the ffmpeg instances are coming from. I'm wondering why they are not terminating or did you take that screen shot immediately after a restart?
Turns out no I’m not running it as a service but as a normal program. Task manager always shows those processes I installed it on a test machine and it did the same thing. So it appears that it’s normal. It shows it regardless of manually launching or restarting the system.
We all learned a little from this.
