2 failed recordings (UK channel 62)

Hi,

I tried recording 2 programmes on True Movies (channel 62) but they both failed. Both were movies of about 2 hours, but the files created are only 180-220Mb. This is the first time I’ve seen a recording failure. Tuning to the channel seems to work fine.

The films were “Agatha Christie’s Sparkling Cyanide” and “Agatha Christie’s A Caribbean Mystery”.

Any idea why they might have failed?

Thanks. What kind of tuner are you using? Is it a legacy DUAL device, or one of the newer CONNECTs? Grab the tuner model and firmware version from the HDHR web UI (my.hdhomerun.com)

I’ve seen some errors like this in the past… basically the tuner fails to correctly tune into the channel, and instead of getting the full audio/video it only gets some of the data.

Looking through your logs, it looks like the films were scheduled to record at 17:00 and 19:00. Is this correct? True Movies broadcasts on Freeview only from 21:00-05:00. Unfortunately the guide data includes the full 24-hour schedule for this channel (and several other part-time channels have this issue with the guide data).

And, the Channels DVR really doesn’t know what to do when it encounters a part-time channel that isn’t currently broadcasting. Freeview receivers put up a static MHEG slate, but Channels doesn’t have that ability.

The solution would be to have more accurate guide data, but I suspect the data suppliers don’t want to create separate feeds for channels that only broadcast part time on Freeview (but 24/7 on other platforms), and it’s a bit difficult to keep up with the relatively frequent changes in Freeview broadcast hours for some of the less popular channels.

EDIT: Here is a list of channels on Freeview with their broadcast hours. Ahh, that makes sense. I didn’t know that and I found the movies via search so I didn’t actually check the channel at the time I set the recordings. Thanks!
