I recently upgraded to the Flex 4K model and the past two days I’ve tried changing stations while Today show was recording and it said both ATSC3 tuners were in use. I checked the activity section of the server UI and it said only 1 program was being recorded. I could only find one instance of a pass for this show being created so I’m confused why the HDHR was tuning the same station on different tuners. I’ve deleted the pass and added it back so I can look for changes tomorrow. Any ideas?
In your client, check Settings > Playback > Advanced > Tuner Sharing. If it is set to "Off", then when you watch live from your client apps, the app is talking directly to the tuner to open a stream of its own.
If you want to ensure that a single tuner is only used in situations like this, you need to enable "Tuner Sharing" on each client. That way, the clients will get their streams from the DVR server; if the DVR is already recording a program or if a different client is viewing a channel live, then the DVR will share that single tuner instance among all clients.
(Or better yet, in your DVR web UI, go to the Clients page. Navigate down to Client Settings > Choose a Setting to Override > Playback > Advanced > Tuner Sharing, and set it to "On". That way, all of your clients will always use tuner sharing.)
