2025 Apple TV. Coming soon?

Rumor has it, Apple will be releasing a new Apple TV this new year (2025).
(though, the last couple rumors had claimed a new model was to be released in 2024 :melting_face:....)

What are you hoping for with a new Apple TV?

More powerful chip? A18 or M series chip?

Rumor has it, the new ATV (and iPhone SE 2025) will have a new Apple made WiFi/Bluetooth SOC.

I for one, hope that more powerful chip will help to play back 4K 60fps VP9 and also AV1 files. As the current model ATV tends to drop frames alot with this higer rez and high frame rate files. (I download YT vids)

My forever "Wishlist" for a Apple TV 4K PRO model, that will never happen:
USB C port (for storage expansion or other devices, like a USB DAC)
Optical Audio Out
HDMI eARC port (separate/dedicated port)
Support for multiple Siri remotes.

It sounds like you're hoping for a significant upgrade with the new Apple TV, and I totally get where you're coming from! A more powerful chip, like the A18 or M-series, could really improve the streaming experience, especially for 4K 60fps content with VP9 and AV1 codecs. This would definitely help with frame drops that are currently an issue with high-res files on the existing model.

As for your "wishlist" for the Apple TV 4K Pro, while some of those features like USB-C for storage expansion, optical audio out, and HDMI eARC port sound amazing, they might be a bit of a stretch for the regular Apple TV lineup. But who knows, Apple might surprise us! The support for multiple Siri remotes is a fantastic idea, especially for households with multiple users. Fingers crossed that Apple delivers some of these much-requested upgrades in the new model!
