4K YouTubeTV & Hulu available on Windows-based Android TV?

New user here. I want a 24/7 dedicated Channels TV playback device and have a nice laptop for this purpose. My understanding is the only way to make the laptop work is to install Windows 11 and then Android on top of that. There are no other options?
Okay, but will true-4K live TV shows found on some channels of YouTubeTV and Hulu+ Live TV (like ESPN) work? Those two services don't list Channels/Windows as a compatible device for 4K playback.

I have a Shield TV Pro 2019 but I use that for other things and don't want to have to switch back and forth between those things and Channels. I want Channels to be up & running 24/7 so I can just turn on the TV and it's already up and running for me to start switching channels (I dislike this software's confusing name).

Are you considering using the laptop attached to your tv via hdmi, to use as a client?

Because we do not support that setup. With cheap streaming devices designed for this purpose, our apps are made for those.

If you’re considering Channels, I’d suggest using a real streaming device, not a whole computer.

Yes, the laptop will be connected to every TV's HDMI in my house via HDMI splitter (MATRIX).

You’re not going to have a good experience doing this.

I’d suggest picking up an Apple TV for watching content with.

If you use WSL and the Channels Android, app, it ends up using the Android mobile (phone) UI, NOT the Android TV UI. Cause it (WSL) running Android, not Android TV. The phone Ui is meant for touch interface, not mouse/keyboard.

Also, it can be stuttery and laggy with normal content, let alone 4K content.
Setting to Software decoder can help, but it will use your cpu alot.

Thank you for the explanation

I run Channels on the windows 11 Android platform and it works well. To avoid the stuttering mentioned above, change /playback/advanced/video decoder to software.

When I was running Windows 10, I used the BlueStacks Android Emulator. This also works well with the video decoder set to software.

And this is fine if you're using it on the desktop. What we're suggesting against is using it as a TV based app full screen.
