500 channels limits .

Yes that is what m3u4u does. But it’s an annoying, not very user-friendly service in my experience, a bit of a hassle to rely upon.

If Channels DVR could make an exception for Plex, or just up the limit a bit, it would work better for lots of folks.

I can just hear someone asking for 1,000 limit now.

I see Plex has gone to 508 channels.... but, lately, Plex has been just terrible, most of the channels, will only play for several seconds, then Tuner lost, or maybe 10 or 15 min, then same. That too many requests error shows up in log.

Pluto channels, a few do the same thing from time to time, but rarely..

I would probably hide 980 of them. Too many...

Sure but the issue was once we hit the 500 limit, the newest channels added beyond that wouldn't even be presented to us, to choose or reject. At least now we can browse through all 508 of the Plex channels and choose which ones we'd like to include in our own CDVR setups.

I guess it is to brag my DVR is bigger than your DVR . :grinning:

I know some users would brag that they get over 1,000 channels.
I would just nod my head and roll my eyes!

I know. One needs to see all 1,000 so they can pare it down to a manageable grid guide.

Agreed. I keep my main Channel Collection around 65. But those "unlisted" channels are still monitored by passes so if something crops up on a rouge odd ball channel it can get recorded. So its nice the limit has been increased for that reason too.

@chDVRuser What do you consider a manageable grid guide?

I was only kidding, but about 25 channels.
Channel Collections is the way to go.

Actually I wish it was unlimited channels per m3u/source and supported groups(m3u_plus) & a button to copy playlist and epg for export with token included. Now that would make channels the Master of the Planet👍

If you download the latest pre-release of Channels, you will get the ability to add up to 750 streams in one source.
After Plex imported, i got a count of 508 channels.

Exactly. This is the only reason I like to have a lot of channels.

"This is to protect performance. The system was not designed to support 10,000 channels. 500 channels is already beyond a rational amount of channels to begin with and certainly beyond the amount that any legal service provides.

This is to protect against people adding m3u playlists with thousands of channels that are almost 100% coming from illegal sources, which we do not support anyways."

I believe by keeping channel count down it discorages iptv (illegal streams) from platform. Mods have always tried to keep ecosystem on legal-ish side.

From my extensive testing the stability issues are limited to the player. The server is rock solid with up to 40,000 channels(max number of channels I've tested with. The weakest link here is the player.Using a 3rd party player the system is 100% stable. This why I requested a button for epg and playlist output with the token embedded so can use 3rd party player remotely because tailscale rarely gets a direct connection and has bandwidth issues when connected to relay witch is usually how tailscale connects you remotely.So... If can export files with token included it would assure a direct connection remotely using all available bandwidth for stable 1:1 picture and totally stable which makes channels dvr the perfect solution.ATM the player makes things not so perfect.I hope you take this into concider action moving forward with further development ,thank you

GitHub playlist contains over 10,000 channels alone that are wide open and their operators I’m sure want as many viewers as they can get.Rare to find a illegal channel in their playlists since they scan in the clear unencrypted publicly available legal streams. So main limits should be a stability issue and you should leave to possibilities of illegal usage to not your issue as you are not promoting illegal usage what someone does with it really you shouldn’t even waste your resources worrying about focusing on development to increase your market share.Always remember there are many tv hobbyists whom limited channel abilities are just another work around to use the system as they desire.Gotta look at both sides of the cointhere are many uses for channels dvr you haven’t even thought of.Thank you again for your continued development of this fine software

  1. Yes TV hobbiestc will find a way around channel limit. Currently you can use services like m3u4u. I used to use epg.best. it was paid but more reliable.

  2. Yes github playlist has absurd number of channels. Back when Maddox made that post there where a lot of githib repositories specializing in illegal streams. I am out of loop on iptv since i stopped using it. Unsure if github still host illegal stream repositories. But i know iptv-org does still contain porn.

  3. I agree about the player CDVR uses. But for me my issues has always been playback compatibility and needing to switch between hardware/software. Where as VLC & Plex just work with ANY video file. Only minor annoyance. Since I abandon bit torrent has not really been a issue.

  4. I am unsure if large m3u playlist still cause any performance issues as that post was from long time ago. As many improvements and upgrades have happened. If there is a performance issue with large playlist I am sure it can be fixed.

  5. All that being said. I highly doubt they will change m3u limit. Even if they don't promote illegal streams. It draws those customers and unwanted attention to their business. I don't think CDVR wants to get any cease and desist letters. Company is simply to small to fight even if they are not in the wrong.

  6. Keep up good work. But can we increase stream limit to 69k channels.
