A few ideas

Hi there

Brand new user and loving the app so far - it’s very pretty.

Seems to be more reliable than Plex (which takes forever to change channel and streams keep dropping/buffering) and I’ve not even entertained the HDHomeRun software which looks pants!

There’s a few things I feel I’m ‘missing’ that I’d love to see in future versions (or maybe that’s already there just haven’t figured it out yet!):

  • be able to jump into guide, manage recordings etc with program continuing in background. For example if watching something live can set other things to record or clean up some recordings in add break and know when show is back on (currently my workaround is to do this on the phone but it’s a bit fiddly). Perhaps short press to jump to Planner and a long press to stop playback/channel play.

  • some textual info on recordings page would be handy indicating date and time and channel recorded for example - similar to the scheduled recordings page

  • set default start screen option (e.g. guide) and default view (favourites) - for me seems to keep reverting back to SD.

  • option to start playing last channel watched when launch app, so can use mini guide to quickly watch content.

  • Swipe left and right when watching tv to pop out mini guide/scheduled recordings and watch next to quickly jump into recorded shows without having to go into menus

  • Tap / Double tap (not click) bottom of remote to program up and top to program down - to ‘flick through’ channels. I love the mini guide which kind of does the job

Anyway just a few days ideas I thought of - some might be limited for technical reasons.

Love the app though and I’ll be subscribing after the trial!

Hey Mark,

When all this came out I wanted to be able to see the guide and do stuff while the show played in the background. Now i prefer to use my phone or tablet. I have the url of the DVR and use the web to schedule/delete recordings, select delete w/re-record, search for show to record, etc. I have 2 links, one for in the house and one for external. That way if someone mentions a show at work I can pull it up and set the recording.

Secondly, I am an iOS/tvOS person, (don’t know if your Apple or google and if this works on the other platforms ) but I can do almost all of that from my iPhone using the free Channels DVR app and have the added benefit of selecting a live show/recording from the guide and it pops up when my ATV is running channels, allowing me to play on my phone OR TV, Making it a quasi-remote.

I guess it took getting used to the change. Having the content play while you watched on a conventional box was their workaround for having a single interface, whereas we all have other devices that let us do more. ( plus searching is better with the phone keyboard!
