A More Extensive Commercial Editing Tool

The commercial detection software works a majority of the time. However, it's not perfect which is why there is an editing tool. I think that there is room for improvement. The editing tool currently works by splitting the video into chunks which allows the user to select which ones to classify as part of the show. There are times when the chunks with the show content would also include a commercial proceeding it. I'm a stickler for accuracy and it's a bit of a hassle to have to skip a commercial even after doing so.There should be an advanced tool where the user can manually adjust the timestamps, therefore eliminating the need for external software to modify the .edl file further.

Also. It doesn't always detect streaming commercials wherevit says "commercial in progress".

It's SUPER bad with cooking channel. It never detects this as a commercial.

To further demonstrate what Im talking about, here are examples from a recent Saturday Night Live episode:

In the first screenshot, you can see the "commercial peek" chunk also include a commercial which means I'd still have to skip manually.

Same situation occurs in the second screenshot, but this time there is no way to skip the commercials after the peek.

If you want perfection, the absolute, only way that it is going to happen, is if you edit the recording yourself. There are plenty of tools out there and expecting this small team to be adding more video editing software to the mix is silly.
My advice is to use Kodi or another playback application that has advanced skip forward/back features.

LosslessCut is a free editing software app that you can use to make all your recordings perfect if you want to go down that path.

I use video redo myself and it usually is pretty good at getting the commercials right when working directly with the dvr. I still go through and manually check and adjust the edit points to get it perfect. They love to take out all the dead black space between the show and start and end of the commercial to mess with auto commercial skip software and programs to try and force you to watch them. Some of my shows get edited very well, some it misses most of the breaks so impossible to get it perfect all the time.

I also use VRD and noticed more shows have one or zero black frames delineating ad segments.
Also more shows playing ads in a window in the upper right while the channel logo stays on the lower portion like normal.

I just use MKVToolNix GUI and trim videos based on time codes.
I can zip through the video file and note the time codes faster and more precise than any automated software i have tried that claims to auto trim out commercials.
And things like comskip, mcebuddy etc, on some programs, it works ok, but most of the time, it does not. either things are cut that should not be, or none at all.
I prefer to do it manually that way i know for sure it is done right.

Some software mentioned here can also show the video timeline and is more like an editing software style. I find that a tad clumsy and distracting to have to mark start end on a time line...to much work i guess. just easy for me to paste in time codes and done. But to each his own.

Love me some MKVToolNIX but god that sounds tedious compared to LosslessCut or VRD.
