ABC/ESPN/Disney Channels Not Working

Has anyone heard anything from the Channels team on this? I assume its the end of the road for Disney and TVE, just curious if its been confirmed by them yet

The change won't be confirmed. Users are simply being moved to the new espn app
Lots of projects out there that will properly get espn loaded into channelwss.

Forgive my ignorance, the fxnow url live stream works(with the proper credentials). Isn't there a work around for adding those to Channels?

When you go to official websites of the networks you want to watch and login you are going behind the paywall, which is what they want. They want your data, they want to know when you are watching and what etc. TVE feeds blocked them from that data. That is why one by one all the streamers are going to kill TVE. The money you pay them for the channel is chicken scratch, its what your data is worth to them and to all the advertisers they sell it to.

P.S. That's is why broadcasters want DRM encrypted 3.0 TV. Its a two way connection, now your local TV station can see exactly what every single viewer is watching and they can even create custom commercial breaks just for you, targeting you with ads that your neighbor watching the exact same channel will not see.

I would gladly exchange my viewing data if I could keep recording, editing and keeping the shows I want long term. It's not like we're not getting tracked already unless you live in a cave somewhere with no devices.

Yes, you can watch it using a web browser, but it's incompatible with Channels DVR.
Just like PBS, the NBC/Universal channels, etc.
Once a network TVE site adds DRM, you can still watch it in a browser that supports the DRM, but Channels DVR does not support DRM channels.

yep...

It’s not about piracy anymore.
It’s about control.
You’re allowed to watch, not to possess or transform.

Bad news. We've been investigating the issue for the last 24 hours, and it looks like the Disney family of networks have gone DRM, a la NBC's transition in 2023.

We're continuing to investigate.

I've got that song stuck in my head now :crying_cat_face:
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust

Only a matter of time before Paramount Skydance does the same thing, and Scripps and all the rest. TVE is walking into the light.

Is EPlusTV broken too? Might try giving that a go as well.

It's broken too

Yeep, just rolled it out... Bum deal. ESPN+ used to work encrypted, so I though maybe it was worth a shot.

All the freebie ABC News channels are gone too.

Did I miss any of The Mouse-Channels DVR TVE channels (34 total)?

Grateful I still have an HDHomerun Prime with a cablecard on Xfinity.

…——-and I now I’ve received the FIOS cablecard cancellation notice today too.

:frowning:

Didn't the Longhorn Network fold when UT moved to the SEC?

It did close down back in 2024.
I was just going by the Channels DVR TVE rescan channels list

TVE is going to look pretty bare by the time all is said and done.

Man this sucks, just really sucks. We were all wondering when this shoe would drop and this is the big one.

I would suggest investigating something like prismcast, a new project here that replaces Chrome capture for channels and is much more configurable. If the ESPN family still works through the browser it will keep working there.

I have my local ABC affiliate configured there, and it's still working. Now I'll have to add all the ESPN channels.

The sucky part is that channels seamlessly handled all the reauthentication that was needed, and this will have to be done manually now through the browser. You're never going to know when a stream's not going to work because you have to reauthenticate. My workaround so far for stuff like HDMI for channels has been to have a test recording run every morning on these channels which I check and fix if I have to reauthenticate, but that gets unwieldy when you keep adding more and more channels.

Edit: from what I can see it doesn't look like there's a way to play the ESPN linear channels at ESPN.com, maybe I'm wrong but it looks like you have to play individual live shows. There's no simple live channel link for ESPN, 2, etc.

Prismcast can get them from Disney Plus but that's a $36 a month subscription, no thanks. I'm already paying for ESPN through my provider.
