Advice for UK User

Hi Everyone from the UK

This looks very exciting and could be the answer to a lot of my TV issues as I cannot connect to UK channels served via aerial i.e. all the main “terrestrial” channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4). Therefore, before I spend any money can a UK user tell me:

  • Will this work on Apple TV 2nd Gen ? (I suspect the answer is no so I would need to buy a 4th Gen which is fine)

  • Will Channels allow me to watch Channel 4 on Live/Pause/Rewind?

Anything else I should be aware of in terms of UK restrictions?

Many thanks

The Channels app only works for stations you can receive with an aerial. You need a hdhomerun tuner box which converts the aerial signal into a video stream on your network.

Thats a shame - back to the drawing board for me! Thanks for the prompt reply

here in the UK the only other option terrestrial wise is Freesat. Which sadly HDhomerun doesn’t support. You have to purchase something like one of the Humax boxes. I suffer with variable tv reception, at winter time. but i love the channels tv/hdhomerun combo too much to switch.

You could also look into the TVPlayer app, which is available for ATV4, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, etc. It carries most of the main Freeview channels and also has an optional subscription tier for some pay channels. I believe they are also starting to roll out some type of DVR functionality. Everything is streamed through the internet so no aerial is required.
