I just noticed, that Infuse, has updated and now has "AI Upscaling" features.
They state this.
Infuse leverages Apple’s hardware to deliver sharper, clearer images when playing lower-resolution videos on larger screens. There’s a fair amount of ‘secret sauce’ here, but Infuse uses a handful of hardware-based APIs with some other magic mixed in to provide AI upscaling features. ...so while the current gen ATV4K will see subtle improvements, the full suite of features will automatically start working on the next-gen models for an even better experience.
I gather that some of what they are doing would be proprietary to their player app, but, that statement seems to indicate their is "hardware-based APIs" that can be used to help enhance/upscale video content.
Is this something Channels DVR already makes use of? For local media playback or live tv?
Or is this something that Channels could look into as a optional feature to enable for possibly better video quality, for supported content.
For the record, I have tried testing Infuse's new Upscaling feature, on my current model Apple TV 4K 128GB model, with both 1080 and 480 files, and i notice no difference.
(but they do state that this is pretty much a thing for the rumored next gen model coming out this year, and for newer hardware that supports "Apple Intelligence", M series chip devices, and A16 or higher devices, which the current Apple TV 4K model is A15)
