Why not just use software encoding?

Even using software encoding wont get me channel 13000 away from home and I have a very expensive gpu that I want to have a use for and while I have a core ultra 7 cpu software transcoding still takes up a lot of resources.

You could just do original quality. With bandwidth the way it is today i cant remember a time where i really needed transcoding. I just run with original quality (no transcoding in all scenarios).

My experience with Ubuntu is you don’t necessarily want the latest release. They frequently have missing gpu drivers and simply are not ready for mass release. Try using something older like Ubuntu 22.04 that has a more established kernel and drivers.

I totally agree with not using the bleeding edge version -- there's little upside. In addition, I would add that if you don't have a specific reason to use the Desktop version of Ubuntu, Server is a better choice.

so I set the following under settings>client and I get yes network on my pixel 8 yay.

However I still don't get channel 13000 away from home. I get the following error

Please update ffmpeg so I can get channel 13000 away from home. thanks

I don't know what "channel 13000" is or why it would have so many MPEG-TS streams that aren't identified by ffmpeg. It sure sounds like there's something abnormal about the stream, but without a sample that's only a guess.

@techpro2004 This issue is with a third party source via Custom Channels. This source is provided by the community, and not part of Channels.

While we strive to do our best to make sure things work great, especially here within this community forum, these sources are just that, third party and not officially part of Channels.

So, while this community forum is absolutely the place to discuss issues with third party foreign sources for Channels, it's not appropriate to demand support for them, as they are not officially supported.

eric:

I will pm you the stream details for channel 13000. Just don't play it around any kids.

Maddox:

I am not demanding anything. I just figure if a simple ffmpeg update will fix my issue then it should not be too much to ask for it.

I just pmed eric

No, updating ffmpeg is not simple. We have many platforms we support and it requires extensive testing on each platform before we update ffmpeg on it to make sure there are no regressions on things that were previously working for folks.

Just curious, why not do limited testing and then list it under experimental features under settings>advanced so the community can test it and eventually approve or deny it. thanks.

Just noticed my linux based channels dvr server is on the 6.0 branch of ffmpeg. While I recognize it may be difficult to upgrade, that is quite old. What is the normal lifespan of an ffmpeg build on channels dvr?

I thought @maddox said to give this up already ?

This message is informational and not related to your errors. The same message exists in the latest version of ffmpeg.

Odd very odd. How do we fix this then?
