Android TV remote DVR - Video stops around 8 seconds in

Remote Android TV: Nvidia Shield TV in Spain
Home DVR: Windows PC with networked HD Homerun in UK

Hello-

I have just set up Channels on a Shield TV at my flat in Spain. I can log in to the DVR at my home in the UK, see the guide, see the DVR library, etc.

When I try to play anything, either any Live TV channel or any recorded program on the DVR, the stream starts and appears to work fine. But, the video stops after about 8 seconds and remains frozen. Audio continues with no obvious buffering. This state continues indefinitely.

Starting a new stream such a a different channel or another recorded program then starts streaming followed by video freezing as above.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ron

Can you go to the Player tab after the freeze and submit diagnostics?

Thanks. I just submitted diagnostics after trying twice to play live TV and once a recording. The behavior was the same.

I do see something strange going on with the streams. If you change your Wi-Fi Streaming Quality in the DVR settings tab to Original does it play?

Can you upload one of those recordings to Google Drive and email it to me ([email protected])

Thanks. I tried live TV on Original, 1080p, and several other options down to 480p. Original and 1080p don’t freeze in the same way, but they do buffer too much to be usable. From 720p down, the freezing behavior is the same. I submitted diagnostics after the trials.

What is the path to the recordings on the DVR, please? I don’t think I have access to the folder while remote, but I’ll be back in the UK tonight. I will post a recording to Google Drive when I can.

You can get to the DVR’s settings page via the hostname, the bonjour advertisement (dvr-<somename>.local) or via the IP address, each with “:8089” tacked on. E.g. (bonjour): dvr-somehost.local:8089. You’ll see the path under “Basic Setup -> DVR”
