I am currently Using ServerWMC as my PVR backend with Kodi as my frontend. I would love the possibility of using Channels as the front end, while still being able to use ServerWMC as the backend.
We’re currently developing our own DVR backend. We won’t be supporting any third-party DVR backends.
Ok, I can see how that would be the preferred way to go on your end. So if that’s the case, will you allow other front ends to use your back end? I’m fine with ditching ServerWMC for your back end, however I may want to use devices from time to time other than Apple devices.
I already purchased Channels, and love it, and ill more than likey jump on board when your DVR is released too, but it would be nice to not be completely locked in to a proprietary system, i mean not being locked in is the whole reason most of us bough an HD Homerun in the first place.
Relik_Link, I’m sure you know this already, but MrMc(6$) supports ServerWMC and works great… It is a clean port of Kodi, with all the Python add-ons stripped out. Has a good, grid based, channel guide. For me the only problem is I can’t run it off a server. Thus, for a reliable DVR, my computer will have to be on all the time. Sometimes labtop computers die and if you use them for anything else, it is just not practicle.
I have looked at MrMc, but I already have full blown Kodi sideloaded on my AppleTV through XCode.
But the main reason for my question is that I would actually like to buy into the Channels ecosystem once thier DVR is released. I already bought Their AppleTV app, which is gorgeous, I know they have an iOS app in the works, and im sure thier DVR is going to be just as nice, if not better. But I dont want to have to have an apple TV on every TV in my house, some of my TV’s are seldom used, which is why it would be great to be able to use the ChannelsDVR backend, with a cheap little RaspberryPi OSMC/OpenELEC box or something for “non primary” TV’s. Options are always nice.
I’d say it’s more likely that you end up with Kodi support for the Channels backend at some point down the road than the other way around.
