Any reason to NOT use a backup?

I've been using Channels for several years now. Over that time, I've moved the database at least 3 times (Mac, PC, NAS.) Getting ready to move it over to new equipment again.

I usually run the latest pre-release. I'm currently using both the Pluto and MLB sources via Docker. Following advice on the boards, I once tinkered with some stuff to generate comskip log files, or something to that effect. (Sorry it's been a while and it's nothing I've used in many months.)

I'm the type of person who usually backs-up Mac/PC files and loads a fresh copy of the OS about once a year, just to keep things clean. Is there any reason to think I might be better off starting over fresh with Channels rather than restoring a backup? I'd say that 90-95% of my programs are in the "imports" directory already. Aside from a handful of sporting events, seems like most everything would import rather seamlessly.

Is there any undesirable "junk" that might have built up in my backup over the years? Or is it just basic data on the recording database, sources, etc.?

Thanks.

I understand the concern. I have used some platforms where the the database gets big, bloated and slow and you have to blow it out every once in a while to maintain acceptable performance. Channels has not been that way for me. I've been running Channels for years, much like you have, moving from one platform to another, but I have never felt the need to do a fresh install. They are obviously doing a great job of keeping the database clean and optimized. My two cents? Save yourself the extra work and restore your existing database.
