Added info:

I was streaming the HD feed when watching football on Fox - transcoder couldn't keep up. Switched to the non-HD feed and problem solved.

If you're watching and it shows anything less than @ 1.00x it means the transcoder can't keep up with the source material it's transcoding. Most likely because the source material is high bitrate.

Only way I know of to improve that is to use a server that can keep up.

Also, have you tested turning off adaptive streaming or using the old transcoder?
